All Aboard! The Train is Now Leaving the Station.

Metro
I'm an avid user of the public transportation system in Baltimore.  It's the easiest way to get to work.  I've seen a lot on the metro, but this one takes the cake.

The train pulled up to the hospital, and everyone got off, except this guy...

I guess this is normal occurrence because people boarded the train, and actually sat around this guy.  It wasn't until the train conductor arrived and told people to exit the train.

Charm City, you never cease to surprise me!

My Little Pony

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

Baltimore is hosting BronyCon 2013!  BronyCon is a convention held by and for fans of the cartoon My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. This 3-day convention is $50 per day or $75 for a weekend pass.

Questions you have to ask yourself:

1) Who will go to this national meeting?

2) What is the average age of attendees?

3) WHY???

Just imagine what they do alone with the My Little Ponies at their home...

Crack baby epidemic not as bad as originally thought

Whew, what a relief!

Many predicted the 80s crack epidemic would create a generation of children with major developmental and behavioral problems, but a new study has found much of the hype hasn't panned out.

Researchers from the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine found that the effects of cocaine in utero had only small effects on adolescent behavior, cognition and school performance.
Other factors such as poverty and exposure to violence had a bigger effect on a teenagers' behavioral and mental development, the researchers found.

The study was published Monday in the journal Pediatrics.

The researchers looked at 27 studies around the country that followed babies exposed to cocaine while in utero into adolescence.

Studies among adolescents are important because there are additional cognitive and social skills, such as abstract reasoning, that take shape during adolescence and would not have been evident earlier in childhood, the researchers said.

Billboard Fail

Pay your child support!  Enough said.  Ironically, this billboard is in front of Section 8/Public housing.  Coincidental?!  I think not.

Stop wildlife crime. It's dead serious.  Hmm, how much wildlife is roaming around the streets of Baltimore?

Let me count the ways

Let me count the ways...of how much I love the Charm City!  As I approach my 3 year anniversary of moving to the city, I've encountered and experienced A LOT!  But this one might take the cake...

My dry cleaners burned down!  The building's roof collapsed, and all the clothes inside was either burned or ruined by the water.  I had a couple of work shirts and suits.  No big deal, but it's a hassle to take care of.  The owner said it most likely was arson.

I've experienced an earthquake, two hurricanes, a workplace shooting, a murder (s) on my street, and other various encounters while living here.

Adventures of a Tar Heel continues...

Mighty Tree Killed by Torched Toilets

http://www.baltimorebrew.com/2013/03/22/farewell-to-a-mighty-tree-felled-by-torched-toilets
Only in Baltimore would people think it is logically ok to put burning hot coals into a porta potty.  Safety First!

"Three porta-potties set in the shade of the old White Swamp Oak for the comfort of spectators and players. What could be more perfect? At game’s end, the spent hot coals from the grill were disposed of into one of the porta-potties. The hot coals combined with residual liquid to set the two adjacent potties ablaze. The Baltimore City fire department responded quickly and extinguished the fire. But alas, the damage had taken its toll on this magnificent champion. The fire climbed twenty-five feet up the trunk searing the bark to a blackened toast. Beneath it laid the melted blue plastic of the porta-potties, burned toilet tissue, springs and latches from the doors, and the remains of the charcoal that had caused this inferno."

Thief Breaks Into Popeye’s, Eats 16 Slices Of Pie, Gets Tired From Eating All The Pie, Takes Nap, Gets Arrested

Thief Breaks Into Popeye’s, Eats 16 Slices Of Pie, Gets Tired From Eating All The Pie, Takes Nap, Gets Arrested

You may remember from a previous posts that Popeyes not only has wifi (!), but also caters!  Nonetheless, it's also apparently a great place to get a late night snack...and take a nap afterwards.

"N. Broadway, 300 block, Feb. 19, 5:17 a.m. Police responded to Popeye's in reference to a burglary. Upon arrival, they found a 62-year-old man asleep on the floor. Security camera footage revealed that he had eaten 16 slices of pie, applesauce, and water. He apparently got sleepy from all the pie, and took a nap on the floor. He was arrested."

Baltimore Looking For Safer City To Host Super Bowl Parade

http://www.theonion.com/articles/baltimore-looking-for-safer-city-to-host-super-bow,31167/

BALTIMORE—Following the Ravens’ victory over the 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII, Baltimore officials confirmed Tuesday that they are currently seeking a safer, less crime-infested city to hold the team’s celebratory parade. “Though we are all excited about our Ravens bringing home the Lombardi Trophy, we must make the safety of parade attendees and the players our number-one priority—and that means keeping the celebration far away from Baltimore,” said mayor’s office spokeswoman Ganesha Martin, who noted that parade planners had proven unable to map out a suitable motorcade route within the city limits that wouldn’t lead the procession through urban neighborhoods notorious for poverty, drugs, and brutal gang violence. “We’ve been scouting out a number of cities in which fans can cheer on their victorious Ravens without putting themselves in immense danger, including Boston, New York, and Pittsburgh. Honestly, San Francisco is pretty high on our list right now, and doesn’t have nearly as many homicides.” City officials are reportedly resolved not to repeat the same mistake made in 2001, when the decision to hold the Super Bowl XXXV victory parade in Baltimore led to the near-fatal stabbing of Ravens head coach Brian Billick by a homeless crack addict 30 seconds into the ceremony.

Following Baltimore’s failure to secure funding to relocate the Super Bowl victory parade to a safer region, sources confirmed that the ongoing celebration has already been marred by a series of violent floatjackings perpetrated by the city’s extensive criminal population. Parade attendees said that multiple floats have been seized by packs of lawless hijackers, and many Ravens players have been robbed, viciously beaten, and, in some cases, kidnapped as their floats are driven away from the parade route. Onion Sports will continue to update this story as it develops.

Police investigate the McDonald's in the 200 block of West Fayette Street. The triple stabbing occurred about 1:40 p.m. near the intersection of North Howard Street and West Fayette Street, police said.

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Gone too soon. A teen stabbed during the Ravens Super Bowl celebration is laid to rest and the killers remain on the loose.
Police tell WJZ they have some pretty solid leads but still no arrests.
Still pictures from a Baltimore City police camera on the corner of Howard and Fayette caught the final moments of life for 15-year-old Deontae Smith.
“It was unnecessary for a fight to break out and he got stabbed it was so unnecessary,” said Andrea Gilmore.
The person in purple is the primary suspect in his murder.
“What we know thus far is that it is an isolated incident. The victims knew their attackers and we believe this stemmed from a dispute,” said Baltimore Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.
The city’s CitiWatch camera network is the most important source police have right now to track down his killer.
“Homicide detectives are reviewing that footage and we have some optimistic leads,” Guglielmi said.
The fight happened in the middle of the afternoon with thousands in the downtown area–including police. But even that didn’t stop the brutal attack.
“It was really awful to hear that after coming from this great celebration,” a woman said.
Many are hoping those who recognize the person in purple believed to be responsible will not stand by and let him get away with murder.
Two other people were also stabbed during the attack and survived.

No Parking on Grass

Anne Arundel Mall

It amazes me that a sign was even created to notify Balti-morons Baltimoreans about this.  After living here for almost 3 years (what?! I'm alive!), nothing surprises me anymore...

Custom Pet Sculpture

I love my dog.  However, I don't want a pet sculpture after my dog goes on to doggie heaven.  It's weird and it creeps me out.  Lastly, where do people even put the sculpture?
